OPTIMA RED TOP Batteries
The OPTIMA RED TOP is a pure starting battery: delivers the maximum cranking current to start the engine powerfully, even in cold or with the battery slightly discharged. It is recognized by its red cover.
SpiralCell technology
Use OPTIMA's SpiralCell technology: six 99.99% pure lead cells wound in a spiral and sealed in AGM. That construction gives it a very high cranking current, vibration resistance up to fifteen times higher than a conventional battery and the ability to be mounted in almost any position without spilling.

How to choose
Choose RED TOP if what you are looking for is starting: it is a starting battery, not a service battery. If your vehicle consumes a lot of electricity with the engine off (audio, refrigerator, winch), the appropriate range is YELLOW TOP, which combines starting and deep cycle.
Equivalences
The RED TOP is the starting range of OPTIMA, identified by its red cap. It should not be confused with the YELLOW TOP (dual purpose, yellow cap) or the BLUE TOP (marine, blue cap): all three share the spiral cell, but only the RED TOP is exclusively optimized for starting.

Does the RED TOP work as a deep cycle battery?
No. The RED TOP is designed for starting: delivers a lot of current for a few seconds. For repeated deep discharges (audio, winch, caravan) you need a YELLOW TOP.
Why does the RED TOP start better in cold?
