Málaga Baterías is the specialist motorcycle battery store in Málaga: official Varta distributor with one of the largest stocks for motorbike, scooter, moped, quad, jet ski and snowmobile batteries in Andalucía. Over 30 years advising riders and installing on the spot, no appointment, at C/ La Orotava 100, 29006 Málaga.
A motorcycle battery works in particularly demanding conditions: constant vibrations, extreme temperatures (Málaga summer heat is one of the main enemies), frequent charge/discharge cycles on short journeys, and long inactivity on many recreational vehicles. A well-chosen battery is the difference between starting first time on a Monday morning and pushing the bike or calling a tow truck.
Modern electronics (ABS, traction control, riding modes, connectivity, alarm) consume much more than classic bikes. If your battery is undersized, electronics start to fail before the starter does.
The "old-school" type. Recognisable by the filling caps; they need periodic top-up of distilled water. Cheapest option, still valid for classic bikes or low-electronics mopeds. Drawback: lose electrolyte quickly with Málaga summer heat.
Come with a separate acid bottle that we activate at install. Maintenance-free afterwards. Most popular choice for modern bikes — excellent price/durability balance.
Electrolyte absorbed in fibreglass mat. Far better vibration resistance (ideal for enduro, trail, off-road, jet ski), no leaks if the bike falls, more deep-cycle resilience. Required on many high-end and modern sport bikes.
Gelled electrolyte. Very resistant to deep discharges and vibration. Useful on bikes that sit unused for long periods. They require a specific gel charger; a standard charger may damage them.
The most advanced technology. One quarter of the weight, far more cycles, no sulphation when stored, much firmer cold start. Popular on sport bikes, customs and racing. Higher upfront cost but lower cost per year. Important: they need a specific lithium charger.
Three parameters must be respected:
YTX14-BS). On the existing battery or in the manual. If you cannot find it, give us make, model and year and we identify it.We also work with Exide, Motobatt, Yuasa and lithium batteries compatible with most market models.
Average 3-4 years on a conventional/sealed battery; 4-6 years on a well-maintained AGM; 7-10 years on lithium. Summer heat combined with long unused periods is the biggest enemy in our climate.
Best option: disconnect the battery and connect it to an intelligent maintainer (Varta, CTEK, Optimate). Keeping correct voltage prevents sulphation, the no.1 cause of premature death. Without a maintainer, run the bike for 20-30 minutes every 2-3 weeks.
Most bikes, yes — but verify two things: 1) the regulator is in good condition and within the lithium-friendly 13.2-14.4 V range, and 2) the bike has no advanced alarm with high standby current. We advise per model.
Most common: parasitic drain (alarm, GPS, electronic management), advanced sulphation on a battery already failing, or a defective voltage regulator. A few minutes with a multimeter at our shop tells us what is going on.
Yes. We work batteries for almost any European or Spanish classic bike. Some originals are open with caps; in many cases they can be replaced by more reliable sealed equivalents.
Yes. Although the store is in Málaga city, we receive customers every week from Torremolinos, Benalmádena, Fuengirola, Mijas, Marbella, Estepona, Rincón de la Victoria, Vélez-Málaga and Nerja, among others.
2 years official Varta warranty for private use on most ranges. We handle the warranty claim directly with the manufacturer using your invoice.
