Jump starters in our Málaga shop
A booster (portable jump starter or jump pack) is a compact battery with clamps that starts your car when the battery has run flat, without needing another vehicle or long jump leads. At Málaga Baterías we stock them in store at C/ La Orotava, 100 (San Luis industrial estate, next to Carretera de Cádiz). We'll recommend the one your car actually needs, not the one with the biggest amp figure on the box, and you can take it with you straight away. If you're a trade customer or can't get to us, we can also bring it to you with our delivery service.
We're open Monday to Friday, 08:30-14:00 and 16:00-18:30. To find out which models we have in on the day, message us on WhatsApp or call 952 31 01 18.
Which jump starter do you need for your vehicle?
| Vehicle | Approximate real cranking current |
|---|---|
| Petrol up to 2.0 | 400-600 A real |
| Diesel 2.0 or larger, SUV | 800-1,000 A real |
| Trade use: vans, fleets, garages | High-end 1,500-2,000 A (peak), with display and protections |
Watch out for the marketing: almost every booster is sold on its peak amps, a figure that lasts an instant and isn't the same as the current it can deliver continuously. That's why it pays to go for more than your engine strictly needs.
The four things that matter when choosing a jump starter
- Real cranking current, not just the peak: this is what decides whether a diesel starts on a cold morning.
- Usable capacity in Wh: this tells you how many starts you get from one charge. In the Málaga heat, a booster left in the glovebox loses charge, so it's worth checking it every couple of months.
- Protections: reverse polarity, short circuit, overvoltage and anti-spark. If the clamps don't have a box with safety electronics, it isn't a modern booster.
- Clamps and cable: wide metal jaws and thick cable. Thin plastic clamps let you down on exactly the day you need them.

Jump starter or new battery: our honest advice
A booster gets you out of a fix, but it won't cure a worn-out battery. If you've had to use it twice in a month, your battery is telling you it's time for a new one. The sensible thing is to start the car with the booster and come straight to us, without switching off the engine, for a free battery check. If it needs replacing, we'll fit a new one in about 15 minutes, no appointment needed. And if the car won't start even with the booster, the problem probably isn't just the battery; we'll check that too. More information on my car won't start in Málaga.
For trade customers and fleets
For delivery vans, company vehicles and garages, a high-end booster pays for itself after just a few call-outs. If you run several vehicles, we'll advise you on boosters and batteries for the whole fleet; see our page on batteries for fleets and businesses.
