Technical guide: how to choose the right motorcycle battery (CCA, AGM, Freshpack)
RSSChoosing the wrong motorcycle battery can damage your ECU, leave you stranded on the first cold start, or cut life to 12 months when it should be 4-5 years. This technical guide explains how to identify the exact reference your bike needs.
The 3 parameters that matter
1. JIS code (e.g. YTX14-BS)
Defines dimensions, capacity, terminals and polarity. Wrong code = doesn't fit, terminals reversed, possible short. Find it on existing battery or in owner manual.
2. Capacity (Ah)
Small urban 50-125cc: 4-7 Ah. Mid 250-600cc: 8-12 Ah. Big >600cc: 12-20 Ah. Never less than original.
3. Cold cranking amps (CCA)
50-300 A depending on engine. Málaga rarely sees -18 °C, so CCA matters less here than in cold climates, but still indicates battery health.
Technologies 2026
- Conventional: caps, refill water. 2-3 years in Málaga. Classic bikes, mopeds.
