VARTA PowerSports AGM Batteries

The PowerSports AGM range covers VARTA sealed motorcycle batteries, ready to install and maintenance-free.

Technology

The electrolyte is absorbed into a glass fiber separator, so the battery does not leak even when tilted and does not require water topping. For a motorcycle this is crucial: the compartment is usually in a forced position, subjected to constant vibration and high temperatures due to the proximity of the engine.

Applications

  • Street and trail motorcycles
  • Scooters of all displacements
  • Quads and light off-road vehicles
  • Replacement of conventional free acid batteries

How to choose

The JIS reference that appears on the label (YTX12-BS, YTZ10S and similar) determines compatibility: it sets the dimensions, the position of the terminals, and the capacity. Find it on your current battery and locate the equivalent in this range.

Naming and equivalences

PowerSports AGM keeps its name. It is the standard sealed motorcycle battery of VARTA; above it is PowerSports AGM Active, with higher cold cranking amps, and below it PowerSports SLI Freshpack, of free acid.

Frequently asked questions

What does the YTX or YTZ reference on my motorcycle battery mean?

It is the JIS standard code. It defines the dimensions, capacity and position of the terminals, and it is what determines compatibility: two batteries with the same JIS code are interchangeable.

Does a motorcycle AGM battery require maintenance?

No. The electrolyte is absorbed in a glass fiber separator, so there is no need to refill water or check levels.

Can it be mounted tilted?

Yes. Since it does not have liquid electrolyte, it does not spill, which is important in motorcycles because the housing is usually in a forced position.

How long does a motorcycle battery last?

It depends a lot on usage: short trips and months of inactivity punish it more than kilometers. Keeping it charged during long stops is what extends its life the most.
