Which battery does your van need?
The most common vans in Málaga (Berlingo, Kangoo, Partner, Transit Connect, Transit, Vito, Sprinter, Ducato, Boxer, Transporter, Master, Trafic, Daily...) fit batteries that usually range from 70 to 105 Ah with cold cranking amps (CCA) from around 640 A to over 850 A. The size, the case and the technology are set by the manufacturer: fitting less capacity or a lower technology than the vehicle asks for shortens battery life and may trigger dashboard warnings.
The key is the technology. Start-Stop and intensive use require EFB or AGM; a conventional battery can't cope with that cycling and degrades within months. As a quick reference:
- Conventional (SLI): only for older vans or light-duty work, without Start-Stop.
- EFB (reinforced plates): for entry-level Start-Stop and delivery work with lots of stops and starts.
- AGM (electrolyte absorbed in glass fibre): for advanced Start-Stop, regenerative braking and vans with heavy power draw; it handles far more cycles than EFB.
