When to replace
The UPS itself usually warns you (red "Replace Battery" LED), but preventive replacement every 3-4 years is the professional approach. Real discharge test: if, after disconnecting from the mains, the UPS drops below 30% of its rated runtime, the battery is at the end of its life.

How to tell which battery your UPS takes
Most office and shop UPS units (APC Back-UPS, Eaton, Salicru, Riello) run on 12 V AGM batteries of 7 or 9 Ah. Larger units use several in series: two, four or eight identical batteries linked together. Before you come in, check three things:
- The battery label: voltage (12 V), capacity (7 Ah, 9 Ah…) and size. If it says “high rate” or gives watts per cell, note that too.
- How many batteries sit inside the UPS or battery pack. Replace them all at once: mixing old and new shortens the life of the whole string.
- The terminals: F1 (4.8 mm spade) or F2 (6.3 mm). A photo is enough.

When it's time to replace it
A UPS keeps its battery on constant charge, so it wears out even without power cuts: expect 3 to 5 years. In Málaga, an unventilated rack or a hot storeroom shortens that. Which battery does an APC UPS use?
Office APC Back-UPS models usually take one or two 12 V AGM batteries of 7 or 9 Ah. Smart-UPS units use two to eight in series. Check the battery label or send us a WhatsApp photo of the UPS model and we'll confirm.
Can I fit a 9 Ah battery instead of a 7 Ah one?
Yes, as long as it's 12 V with the same size and terminal (F1 or F2). You'll gain a little runtime. If the UPS takes several, replace them all with matching ones.
