The Seat Arona has a single 12 V battery in the engine bay: an EFB of around 60-70 Ah and 600-680 A on 1.0 TSI with Start-Stop versions, EFB or AGM of around 70 Ah and 680-760 A on the 1.5 TSI and the 1.6 TDI, and a conventional battery of around 60 Ah and 540 A only on 1.0 TSI without Start-Stop. As a Volkswagen Group car, the new battery must be registered in the energy manager. At Málaga Baterías (C/ La Orotava, 100, Málaga), Official Varta Distributor, we fit and register it with no appointment in about 15 minutes. Price fitted: 85-140 € conventional, 130-230 € EFB and 180-280 € AGM.
The Arona is one of those cars made for Málaga: compact, easy to park in the centre and more than enough for a run down to the beach. It's also one of the cars that reaches us most often with the same complaint: the Start-Stop has stopped working. No hybrid confusion here: the Arona has a single 12 V battery — but it is a Volkswagen Group car, and that has a practical consequence: the new battery must be registered with the energy management system. We do that at C/ La Orotava, 100 (Málaga), with no appointment and in about 15 minutes, as an Official Varta Distributor.

Which battery does the Seat Arona take?
The Arona (MQB A0 platform, sibling of the Ibiza) carries its battery in the engine bay. These are guide ranges by engine, not exact part numbers: the definitive answer comes from your registration plate.
| Version | Battery type | Guide figures | Start-Stop |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1.0 TSI 95 hp in base trims without Start-Stop | Conventional (lead-acid) | around 60 Ah / 540 A | No |
| 1.0 TSI 95 / 110 hp with Start-Stop (manual or DSG) | EFB | around 60-70 Ah / 600-680 A | Yes |
| 1.5 TSI 150 hp and highly equipped versions | EFB or AGM depending on equipment | around 70 Ah / 680-760 A | Yes |
| 1.6 TDI (diesel versions) | EFB (AGM in some cases) | around 70 Ah / 680-760 A | Yes |
Three rules that never fail on the Arona:
- If it has Start-Stop, never a conventional battery. Start-Stop puts the battery through dozens of starts a day; a conventional one sulphates within months and you end up buying another.
- You can move up from EFB to AGM, never down from AGM to EFB. AGM handles more cycles and more heat; it's the better choice if you drive mostly in town or want maximum life.
- Respect the original Ah and CCA (or go slightly higher), the polarity and the dimensions: the Arona has a tight battery tray and a hold-down clamp that must be properly retightened.
How to know which one is yours
Send us your plate on WhatsApp and within minutes we'll tell you the type (conventional, EFB or AGM), Ah, CCA, dimensions and the final fitted price. It's the safest route, because two Aronas of the same year can carry different batteries depending on trim and equipment (climate control, camera, Start-Stop, DSG). If you want to check yourself, open the bonnet: the battery label shows the Ah, the A (CCA) and, if applicable, the EFB or AGM marking. Also look for a sensor on the negative terminal: if it's there, your Arona manages charging intelligently and the new battery must be registered.
Before changing anything, you can have a free battery check: five minutes and you know its real state.
Signs it needs replacing
- Start-Stop no longer shuts the engine down. It's the earliest and most ignored warning on the Arona: the energy manager disables the function as soon as it sees the battery has no margin left. The Start-Stop isn't "broken" — it's warning you.
- Slower cranking than usual, with the 1.0 TSI sounding heavy as it turns over, especially after a weekend parked up.
- Random electrical messages in the cluster or the infotainment rebooting.
- Windows and central locking noticeably slower.
- More than 4 years on the same battery: in Málaga, with the heat, realistic life is 4-6 years for conventional and 5-7 years for AGM.
A very local note: the Arona is a city car doing short trips (Carretera de Cádiz, the centre, Teatinos). In summer, with the air conditioning on from minute one and 10-minute journeys, the alternator never replaces what starting consumed. That cycle, repeated for months, is what kills batteries in Málaga long before any cold snap does.

Battery change with no appointment in Málaga
Come to C/ La Orotava, 100, 29006 Málaga whenever you like: no appointment, about 15 minutes. On the Arona the change includes:
- Free Midtronics test before and after: we also check the alternator, because sometimes Start-Stop fails through undercharging rather than a worn battery.
- Registering the battery with the energy management system — the step many skip. Without it, the car keeps applying the old battery's charging curve and the new one ages prematurely.
- Memory saver so you don't lose settings or radio presets.
- Correct torque on the hold-down clamp and terminal cleaning.
- Free recycling of the old battery and warranty under Spanish RDL 7/2021.
We're a step away from Carretera de Cádiz and very close to Teatinos. See our full range of car batteries in Málaga.

Frequently asked questions
How much does a Seat Arona battery cost in Málaga?
At Málaga Baterías (C/ La Orotava, 100, Málaga) a Seat Arona battery costs 85-140 € if it is conventional, 130-230 € if it is EFB and 180-280 € if it is AGM, always with fitting and energy-manager registration included, at no extra cost for the coding. As a B-SUV with 60-70 Ah batteries, the Arona usually sits in the lower-to-mid part of each range. The Midtronics test is free.
Does the battery need coding when replaced on a Seat Arona?
Yes on Aronas with Start-Stop and a sensor on the negative terminal: the new battery must be registered with the car's energy management system. If it isn't, the vehicle keeps charging using the old battery's parameters and the new one lasts less. We do it at the time of fitting, at no extra cost.
Can I fit an AGM to a Seat Arona that came with EFB?
Yes. Going from EFB to AGM is an upgrade: AGM withstands more charge cycles and copes better with Málaga's heat. What you must never do is the opposite — fit an EFB where the manufacturer specifies AGM, or a conventional battery in an Arona with Start-Stop.
Does the Seat Arona have a hybrid or 48V battery?
No. The Arona has no hybrid or 48 V versions: it carries a single 12 V battery in the engine bay that starts the engine and powers all the electronics. That makes the change straightforward, always respecting the type (conventional, EFB or AGM) and the registration with the energy manager.
The Start-Stop on my Arona no longer works. Is it the battery?
Almost always yes: when the battery loses capacity, the energy manager disables Start-Stop to guarantee the next start. But before selling you anything we check it free with the Midtronics, because it can also be down to the alternator, a parasitic drain, or a previous battery that was never registered.
