Need a battery for your Nissan Juke in Málaga? The Juke is one of the most common compact SUVs on the city's streets, and not all its versions take the same battery: petrol, diesel and hybrid need fairly different ones. At Málaga Baterías (C/ La Orotava, 100, 29006 Málaga) we identify it from the number plate and change it on the spot, in about 15 minutes and with no appointment. Official Varta Distributor since 1999, free Midtronics test and recycling included. Call us on 952 31 01 18.
Key facts
- Typical capacity: 45-70 Ah, depending on version and engine.
- Type: conventional or EFB on entry-level versions without Start-Stop; EFB or AGM on those that have it; on the Juke Hybrid, a 12 V service battery, AGM or EFB.
- Peculiarity: on the Juke Hybrid, the petrol engine is started by the high-voltage system, not the 12 V battery; if that 12 V battery goes flat, the car won't power up even if the traction battery is fully charged.
- Price with fitting: conventional 85-140 €, EFB 130-230 €, AGM 180-280 €, high-end AGM 280-380 €.
- Real service life in Málaga: 4-6 years for conventional and EFB, 5-7 years for AGM.
- Where: Málaga Baterías, C/ La Orotava, 100, 29006 Málaga. Fitted in about 15 minutes, no appointment. Official Varta Distributor since 1999.
Which battery does the Nissan Juke take?
The Juke has gone through three quite different stages: the Juke I (2010-2019), with petrol and diesel engines and Start-Stop only on some trims; the Juke II (from 2019), with Start-Stop as standard and higher standby power draw; and the Juke Hybrid E-Tech (from 2022), a full hybrid that no longer has a conventional starter motor. Fitting the same battery to all three is an expensive mistake: each one calls for a different type.
| Version | Start-Stop | Recommended type | Indicative capacity / cranking |
|---|---|---|---|
| Juke I (2010-2019) 1.6 petrol | Trim-dependent | Conventional or EFB, trim-dependent | 60-70 Ah / 550-640 A |
| Juke I (2010-2019) 1.5 dCi diesel | Yes | EFB | Around 70 Ah / 680-720 A |
| Juke II (2019-) 1.0 DIG-T petrol Start-Stop | Yes | EFB (AGM as an upgrade) | 65-70 Ah / 600-680 A |
| Juke Hybrid E-Tech (from 2022) | Yes (hybrid) | AGM or EFB (12 V service battery) | 45-60 Ah / — (started via the high-voltage system) |
These are indicative ranges: Nissan has fitted different capacities within the same engine depending on year, trim and market, and we're not going to invent a part number for you over the internet. What is firm: if your Juke has Start-Stop, it needs EFB or AGM, never a conventional one; and on the Juke Hybrid, the 12 V battery is an ordinary lead-acid service battery that needs the same care as in any other car —if it goes flat, the car won't start, even though it's not the one driving the wheels. You can move up from EFB to AGM; never drop from AGM to EFB. On the Juke Hybrid, cranking current (CCA) doesn't apply the same way it does on a conventional engine, because the petrol engine is started by the high-voltage system, not the 12 V battery. Confirm it with the number plate.
Golden rule
If your Nissan Juke has Start-Stop, it needs EFB or AGM; on the hybrid, the 12 V is a service battery that needs the same care: without it, the car won't start.
You can move up from EFB to AGM. Never go down from AGM to EFB. Never a conventional battery with Start-Stop.
How to find out which one is yours
Forget hunting for the part number on forums. Give us the number plate —from the quote form on this page, on WhatsApp or by calling 952 31 01 18— and we'll confirm the type, the size and the final fitted price for your Juke's battery.
Want an idea first? Use the "which battery do I need?" test. And if what you want to know is whether yours will survive another summer, the free battery check in Málaga with Midtronics tells you in 5 minutes, no obligation: it measures real charge and health, not just a voltage reading.
Three details help narrow it down: year, engine (petrol, dCi diesel or Hybrid E-Tech) and whether the engine switches itself off at traffic lights (that's Start-Stop, and it changes the battery type; on the Hybrid, it changes the whole approach).

Signs it is time to replace it
The Juke has a fairly recognisable failure pattern, and it's almost always tied to city use:
- It won't start after a few days parked. A classic on Jukes used only at weekends or left in the garage over the holidays. The electronics keep drawing power at rest and, if the battery is already old, it doesn't make it.
- Lazy starts in the morning, fine in the afternoon. A sign of a battery that's short on charge: in the morning it's cold and flat; after some driving, the alternator has put back just enough.
- Start-Stop no longer kicks in at traffic lights. The Juke disables it on its own when the battery isn't at the required state of charge. It's not a system quirk: it's a warning.
- On the Juke Hybrid, the car won't power up even though the hybrid system has plenty of charge. That's the clearest sign that the 12 V service battery is flat: without it, the high-voltage system can't start the petrol engine.
- The touchscreen reboots or loses the clock when you switch on the ignition.
- Locks and windows are slow, or the car takes a while to "wake up" when you unlock it.
And here's the nuance almost nobody tells you: short trips kill batteries. A Juke doing 10 minutes to work and 10 back never completes a recharge —starting uses a lot and the alternator (or the hybrid system) doesn't have time to put it back— so the battery lives chronically half charged. That causes sulphation and shortens its life, on the Hybrid too. Add Málaga's heat and you can see why an urban Juke often stops at 4-6 years (5-7 with AGM). If that's your case, a 30-40 minute run every now and then, or a trickle charger, makes a real difference.
How much it costs in Málaga
The price ranges we work with, fitting included:
- Conventional: 85-140 €. The typical case for a petrol Juke I without Start-Stop: it's the cheapest version to keep running on this front.
- EFB: 130-230 €. What almost any Juke with Start-Stop needs, including the 1.5 dCi diesel and the petrol Juke II.
- AGM: 180-280 €. For highly equipped versions, or if your Juke sleeps out in the sun and you want maximum headroom.
- High-end AGM: 280-380 €. The usual choice for the Juke Hybrid: it's worth protecting the 12 V service battery with the best reserve available, because the whole hybrid system depends on it to start the car.
Guide prices, installation included. The final price may vary depending on how complex the installation is and on the battery specifications. Ask us for a no-obligation quote.
Includes a genuine Varta battery, fitting, coding if your Juke needs it and recycling of the old one. Fixed price before we start. Manufacturer's warranty in line with Spanish RDL 7/2021.
Battery change with no appointment in Málaga
We're at C/ La Orotava, 100, 29006 Málaga (Cruz de Humilladero). On a Juke the change is quick: about 15 minutes, no appointment. You come in, we test it, we change it and you get on with your day.
- Free Midtronics check before we sell you anything.
- Official Varta Distributor since 1999: genuine battery and manufacturer's warranty.
- OBD-II coding when your Juke requires it.
- Free recycling of the old battery.
If your Juke has died parked in the city centre or around Carretera de Cádiz, bear in mind that in Málaga city we work in the shop, not at your home: jump-start it or call assistance and bring it over, or bring us just the battery if you can remove it yourself. If it's a Juke Hybrid, the 12 V battery is jump-started the same way as in any other car, but don't touch or try to jump the high-voltage system.

Frequently asked questions
Which battery does the Nissan Juke take?
The Nissan Juke takes a 12 V battery ranging from 45 to 70 Ah depending on version and engine. The petrol Juke I (2010-2019) is happy with a conventional or EFB battery of 60-70 Ah depending on trim; the Juke I 1.5 dCi diesel needs an EFB of around 70 Ah; the Juke II (from 2019), with Start-Stop as standard, calls for EFB or AGM of 65-70 Ah; and the Juke Hybrid E-Tech (from 2022) uses a 12 V service battery, AGM or EFB, of 45-60 Ah, without the usual cranking-current concept, because the petrol engine is started by the high-voltage system. These are indicative ranges. At Málaga Baterías (C/ La Orotava, 100, 29006 Málaga), Official Varta Distributor, we confirm it from the number plate and fit it in about 15 minutes with no appointment.
I only use my Juke to drive into town, 10-minute trips. Is that why the battery keeps dying?
Yes, that's one of the most common causes. Starting uses a lot of energy and in 10 minutes the alternator (or the hybrid system) can't put it back, so the battery is permanently living at half charge. Over time that causes sulphation on the plates and it loses capacity for good, on the Juke Hybrid too. In Málaga, the heat speeds the process up. Two simple remedies: take a 30-40 minute run every two or three weeks, or hook up a trickle charger if the car sits for days on end. And get the free check done: we'll tell you whether it has actually lost capacity or is just discharged.
Can I fit a higher-amperage battery to my Nissan Juke?
Within limits, yes: going up slightly in capacity harms nothing, because the car draws what it needs and no more. But there are three non-negotiable limits: the battery has to fit the space, match the base hold-down and keep the terminal layout. And more important than the amps is the type: if your Juke asks for EFB or AGM, a large conventional battery is still the wrong choice. On the Juke Hybrid, it's not really about raising the cranking amps —the high-voltage system handles that— but about choosing the right reserve for the service battery. With the number plate we'll tell you how far you can go safely.
Does the Nissan Juke Hybrid have a 12 V battery?
Yes. The Juke Hybrid E-Tech has no conventional starter motor: the petrol engine is started by the high-voltage system. The 12 V battery —an ordinary lead-acid service battery— powers the electronics and "wakes up" the car before the hybrid system can get it moving. If that 12 V battery goes flat, the Juke Hybrid won't power up, even if the traction battery (high voltage) is charged to 100%. That 12 V battery is the one we change, in the shop, in about 15 minutes. We don't touch the high-voltage traction battery: that's for the official Nissan service.
Do the Juke I, the Juke II and the diesel take the same battery?
No, and it's a common mistake. The petrol Juke I (2010-2019) was happy with a conventional or EFB battery depending on trim, while the Juke I's 1.5 dCi diesel already required EFB as standard because of Start-Stop. The Juke II (from 2019) has Start-Stop across the range and needs EFB or AGM, usually with more capacity. And the Juke Hybrid (from 2022) changes the whole approach: its 12 V battery is a service battery, not a conventional starter one. If you have a Juke II or a Hybrid and someone offers you a battery "like the old Juke used", they're selling you something that will either degrade within months or simply doesn't fit the system. Generation, engine and whether it's a hybrid decide: that's why we always confirm with the number plate.
Does my Nissan Juke need AGM or EFB?
If your Juke has Start-Stop it needs EFB as a minimum, and AGM is a valid upgrade that usually pays off in Málaga because of the heat. The Juke II (from 2019) has Start-Stop as standard, so it falls into EFB or AGM. On the Juke Hybrid, the 12 V service battery usually calls for AGM or high-end EFB, because the whole hybrid system depends on it to start the petrol engine. Only the entry-level petrol Juke I without Start-Stop can take a conventional battery. Never fit a conventional battery to a Juke with Start-Stop and, if yours left the factory with AGM, don't go down to EFB. With the number plate we confirm it in a minute.
How much does it cost to change a Nissan Juke battery in Málaga?
At Málaga Baterías (C/ La Orotava, 100, 29006 Málaga) a conventional battery costs 85-140 €, an EFB 130-230 €, an AGM 180-280 € and a high-end AGM 280-380 €, always including fitting. Most Nissan Jukes with Start-Stop fall in the EFB bracket of 130-230 €, and the Juke Hybrid usually needs the high-end AGM at 280-380 € to properly protect the service battery. The price includes a genuine Varta battery, fitting, coding if your Nissan Juke needs it and recycling of the old one. We give you the final price before touching the car and the warranty is the manufacturer's, in line with Spanish RDL 7/2021.
