The Nissan range runs 12 V batteries: conventional or EFB on entry petrol models, 60-70 Ah EFB on the Micra, Juke and Qashqai with Start-Stop, and on the Nissan e-Power (Qashqai and X-Trail) and the Juke Hybrid the 12 V battery is an auxiliary one (AGM or EFB): it powers the ignition and electronics but does not crank the engine. On Nissans with a sensor on the negative terminal, the new battery has to be registered in the ECU, and we include that. At Málaga Baterías (C/ La Orotava, 100, 29006 Málaga), Official Varta Distributor since 1999, we test it free and fit it with no appointment, in about 15 minutes. Guide prices, fitting included: 85-140 € conventional, 130-230 € EFB and 180-280 € AGM.

What battery does a Nissan take?

Nissan shares mechanicals with the Renault Alliance, so you will see similar solutions. On petrol models with Start-Stop (Micra, Juke, Qashqai) the battery is a 60-70 Ah EFB; never fit a conventional one where an EFB belongs. On the Nissan e-Power (Qashqai and X-Trail) and the Juke Hybrid the 12 V battery is auxiliary: it powers the ignition and electronics but does not crank the engine (the high-voltage system does that). If that 12 V runs flat, the car won't go to READY even with the traction battery charged. And on units with a sensor on the negative terminal, the new battery must be registered in the ECU, included in the swap.

How we do it

No appointment · in about 15 minutes

  • 01Give us the plate
  • 02Free Midtronics test
  • 03Fitted in 15 minutes
  • 04Registration and recycling included

Signs it needs replacing

  • Slow cranking when cold, especially first thing in winter.
  • Start-Stop stops kicking in on the petrol Micra, Juke or Qashqai: the classic first warning.
  • Battery warning light or charging-system messages on the dash.
  • On e-Power or Juke Hybrid, the car is slow to reach READY or won't switch on: usually the auxiliary 12 V.
  • Battery replaced recently but not registered in the ECU: the car charges it badly and it lasts half as long.
  • More than 4-5 years old. In Málaga a conventional battery lasts on average 4-6 years and an EFB/AGM 5-7.

Frequently asked questions about your Nissan battery

What battery does a Nissan take?

Most Nissans run a 12 V battery: conventional or EFB on entry petrol models, a 60-70 Ah EFB on the Micra, Juke and Qashqai with Start-Stop, and an auxiliary 12 V (AGM or EFB) on the e-Power and the Juke Hybrid, which powers the ignition but does not crank the engine. On Nissans with a sensor on the negative terminal, the new battery is registered in the ECU. These are guide values: confirm them free with your plate at Málaga Baterías, C/ La Orotava, 100, 29006 Málaga.

How much does it cost to change a Nissan battery in Málaga?

At Málaga Baterías (C/ La Orotava, 100, 29006 Málaga) changing a Nissan battery costs 85-140 € with a conventional battery, 130-230 € with EFB and 180-280 € with AGM, always with fitting included. The prior test, the ECU registration and recycling of the old battery are not charged separately, and the warranty is the one set by RDL 7/2021. We are an Official Varta Distributor since 1999 and work with no appointment.

Does the battery need registering or coding on a Nissan?

On Nissans with Start-Stop or e-Power that have a sensor on the negative terminal, yes. The energy-management system adapts charging to the state of the battery, so a new battery that isn't registered charges badly and lasts less. We do it with the diagnostic tool in the same swap and at no extra cost.

My Nissan is e-Power or Juke Hybrid, does the 12 V battery crank the engine?

No. On the e-Power (Qashqai and X-Trail) and the Juke Hybrid the 12 V battery is auxiliary: it powers the ignition, the electronics and wakes the systems, but it does not move the car or crank the combustion engine, the high-voltage system does that. It is usually AGM or EFB and, as it doesn't crank, there is no point asking it for an engine CCA figure.

Why won't my Nissan go to READY if the big battery is fine?

Because the ignition and electronics depend on the auxiliary 12 V battery, not on the traction one. If that 12 V runs flat, the car won't reach READY or switch on even with the high-voltage battery charged. It's a typical fault on e-Power and hybrids and is solved by changing the 12 V.

How long does a Nissan battery last in Málaga?

From 4 to 6 years for a conventional one and 5 to 7 for an EFB or AGM. The heat of the Málaga coast evaporates electrolyte and speeds up wear, so batteries here last on average less than inland. If yours is over four years old, drop by for the free test.
