Which battery does the Hyundai i10 take?
The i10 has had three generations — i10 I (2007-2013), i10 II (2013-2019) and i10 III (2019-) — and all three are petrol only: 1.0 and 1.2 MPI, and the 1.0 T-GDi on the N Line. There's no diesel and no hybrid version. What does change between versions is the battery size and whether it has ISG (Idle Stop & Go), Hyundai's Start-Stop system: on such a small car, fitting the wrong size battery is easier to get wrong than it looks.

The i10 has a very recognisable failure pattern, and being a car with less reserve capacity than a bigger one, it shows up fast:
- It won't start after a few days parked. With a small battery the margin is tighter: the i10 has less reserve than a bigger car, so a few days off the road are enough to leave you stranded if the battery is already old.
- Lazy starts in the morning, fine in the afternoon. A sign of a battery that's short on charge: in the morning it's cold and flat; after some driving, the alternator has put back just enough.
- ISG no longer kicks in at traffic lights (if your i10 has it). The system disables it on its own when the battery isn't at the required state of charge. It's not a quirk: it's a warning.

Yes, that's one of the most common causes, and it counts for even more on the i10 because it starts from a lower capacity than a bigger car. Starting uses a lot of energy and in 10 minutes the alternator can't put it back, so the battery is permanently living at half charge. Can I fit a bigger or higher-amperage battery to my Hyundai i10?
Carefully, and not always. Unlike a bigger car, the i10's engine bay is genuinely small and the margin for going up in size is tight: a bigger battery may not physically fit the space, may not match the base hold-down, or may leave the terminals in a position the original cables can't reach. Before going up in amps "just in case", confirm with the number plate the exact format your i10 can take.
