How to tell which one your 3 Series needs
Quick tip: on the 3 Series the battery isn't under the bonnet but in the boot, under the floor or in a side compartment, and its negative terminal carries the IBS sensor with a connector coming off it. That means two things: the car actively manages charging and needs AGM (or EFB on some F30), and the new battery must be registered to the ECU. You can step up from EFB to AGM, but never drop from AGM to EFB. Does the battery need registering when you change it on a BMW 3 Series?

If you fit a new one without registering it to the ECU, the car charges it as if it were the old one, mistreats it and halves its life. It could be. On the 330e the 12 V battery is auxiliary: it doesn't crank the petrol engine or move the car, that's the high-voltage battery's job, but it does power the electronics and switch the car on. If that 12 V goes flat, the car won't reach READY or power up even with the traction battery charged. Bring it in and we'll test it free with the plate.
How long does a 3 Series battery last in Málaga?
