The Kia Ceed battery is 12 V and runs to around 60-70 Ah and 560-760 A depending on the engine: EFB on the 1.0 and 1.5 T-GDi with Start-Stop, EFB or AGM on the 1.6 CRDi diesel and on the 1.5 mild-hybrid 48 V (which, besides the 48 V unit, also carries a separate 12 V lead battery on board), and AGM on the XCeed PHEV, where the 12 V is auxiliary and does not crank the engine. On Ceeds with a sensor on the negative terminal, the new battery must be registered in the ECU. How to tell which one your Ceed needs
Quick trick: look at the negative terminal. If it has a sensor with a connector (the battery state sensor), your Ceed manages charging actively and needs EFB or AGM plus registration of the new battery in the ECU. If your car left the factory with AGM, keep AGM: you can go up from EFB to AGM, but never down from AGM to EFB. And if you are unsure whether the fault is the battery or the alternator, start with a free battery check.

Does the battery need registering when you change it on a Kia Ceed?

The energy-management system stores the battery's history and adapts charging to its ageing: if you fit a new one without registering it, the car charges it as if it were the old one and shortens its life. Does the Ceed 1.5 mild-hybrid take a special 48 V battery?
It has two: the 48 V unit of the mild-hybrid system, which is not replaced like a normal starter battery, and a 12 V lead battery (EFB or AGM) that powers the onboard electronics and is the one we test and replace. When that 12 V degrades, ECO-system warnings appear and the mild-hybrid stops assisting. We confirm the one your car needs from the plate.
My XCeed is a plug-in hybrid, why won't it start if the 12 V battery is flat?
Because on the XCeed PHEV the 12 V battery is auxiliary: it provides the ignition and powers the electronics, but it does not move the car or start the system. If that 12 V goes flat, the car won't reach READY even with the traction battery full. It is usually an AGM or EFB; we test it free and, if needed, change it without an appointment in about 15 minutes.
How long does a Ceed battery last in Málaga?
