Taxi and VTC batteries in Málaga
When the car is your working tool, a flat battery is not just a breakdown: it is hours of work lost. At Málaga Baterías we know that, which is why we serve you without an appointment and the change takes around 15 minutes at our workshop at C/ La Orotava, 100 (29006 Málaga), with direct access to the MA-20 so you are straight back on the road.
We are an Official Varta Distributor and we have been in the city for over 27 years. Send us your number plate on WhatsApp and we will confirm the reference and the price before you set off, with the battery ready and waiting.
Why taxis and VTCs go through batteries faster
- A huge number of starts every day: each start is a peak in demand that the alternator has to replace.
- Hours at idle: at the taxi rank or waiting for a fare, with air conditioning, lights, taximeter, radio, GPS and phones charging. At idle the alternator gives little, so the battery makes up the difference.
- Short urban trips: runs around the city centre that leave no time to recharge.
- Extra equipment: screen, POS terminal, cameras, roof sign… a permanent drain that did not come with the car from the factory.
- The heat in Málaga: it cuts into a life that in normal conditions can reach 5-7 years, and with this kind of use often much less.
That is why a taxi is better off with a battery that has spare capacity and, where the vehicle allows it, EFB or AGM technology: they withstand far more charge and discharge cycles than a conventional battery.
Which battery suits you
Most taxis and VTCs in Málaga are hybrids or cars with Start-Stop (Toyota Corolla and Prius, Skoda Octavia, Seat León, Mercedes E-Class, Dacia…). These vehicles need AGM or EFB: fitting a conventional battery is a mistake you pay for with an early failure and, in many cases, with Start-Stop switched off.
On hybrids you have to tell the traction battery (the high-voltage one in the hybrid system) apart from the 12 V auxiliary battery, which is the one we change and the one that stops the car starting even when the hybrid battery is fine.
Many models also require the new battery to be registered with the control unit (BMS). We do that on the spot with diagnostic equipment: if it is not registered, the car charges as though the old battery were still fitted and the new one lasts less.
Signs you will not make it to the end of the week
- The engine turns over slowly on the first start of the day.
- Start-Stop stops working (the car disables it when the battery is marginal).
- The lights dim at idle while you wait at the rank.
- You have needed jump leads at some point this month.
Before it strands you with a passenger on board, come in: we check the battery and the alternator free of charge with Midtronics equipment in five minutes and tell you whether it will hold up.
