Taking your car for its ITV test in Málaga? Check the battery firstFree check in 5 minutes and a change in 15, no appointment. On your way to the ITV station.

The battery and the ITV test in Málaga

The battery is not an inspection point in itself, but it can still cost you the ITV. A worn battery causes faults that are checked: headlights that do not reach the required intensity, warning lights on the dashboard, errors reading the control unit over OBD or, quite simply, a car that will not start on the inspection lane.

So it is worth checking it before, not after. At Málaga Baterías we do it free of charge and in five minutes with Midtronics equipment, no appointment needed, at C/ La Orotava, 100 (29006 Málaga). If it has to be replaced, you are ready to go in around 15 minutes.

What can fail your ITV because of the battery

  • Dim headlights: the dipped beam does not reach the required value because the voltage drops.
  • Warning lights on: a marginal battery triggers electrical management, ABS or airbag warnings that the ITV records as a defect.
  • OBD reading errors: if the voltage drops during the diagnostic, the control unit may return fault codes or fail to communicate.
  • The car does not start on the lane: an immediate result, and a wasted appointment.
  • A badly secured battery or corroded terminals: this really is a safety defect, and it is easy to put right.

We are on the way to Málaga's ITV stations

Our shop is in the western area, with direct access to the MA-20, which is very handy if you are heading to the stations around the Guadalhorce, El Viso or towards the coast. You can drop in before your appointment, have the battery checked at no cost and carry on with peace of mind.

If you want to be sure, send us your number plate on WhatsApp and we will confirm the reference and the price in case it does need replacing.

A quick check before you go to the ITV

  • Start it from cold: if the engine turns over slowly, the battery is marginal.
  • Check that there are no warning lights on the dashboard.
  • Make sure the terminals are clean and free of white sulphate.
  • Check that the battery is properly secured with its clamp.
  • If it is more than 4 years old (a long time in Málaga, given the heat), have it checked.

Frequently asked questions

Can I fail the ITV because of the battery?
The battery is not a direct inspection point, but its consequences are: insufficient light intensity, warning lights on, OBD reading failures or the car not starting. A badly secured battery or terminals in poor condition also count as a defect.
Do you check the battery free of charge before the ITV?
Yes. Checking the condition of the battery and the alternator is free, it is done on the spot with Midtronics equipment and it needs no appointment.
How long does it take if it has to be replaced?
Around 15 minutes. If you send us the number plate on WhatsApp beforehand we will have it ready and the stop is as short as possible.
I have been told the battery is not properly secured, can you fix it?
Yes. Securing it correctly with its clamp is part of the fitting we carry out; it is a common defect and a simple one to put right.
