Home › Car batteries › Batteries by brand › Toyota › C-HR Need a battery for your Toyota C-HR in Málaga? The C-HR is a hybrid, and that completely changes what it needs: its 12 V battery is an auxiliary AGM type and does not start the combustion engine —that job belongs to the high-voltage traction battery through the electric motor—. At Málaga Baterías (C/ La Orotava, 100, 29006 Málaga) we identify the 12 V one from the number plate and change it on the spot, in about 15 minutes and with no appointment . Official Varta Distributor since 1999, free Midtronics test and recycling included. Call us on 952 31 01 18 .

Key facts

- Type: on the hybrid C-HR, a 12 V auxiliary AGM battery; only the 1.2 Turbo petrol, without hybrid drive, uses an EFB because of its Start-Stop.

- It does not crank the engine: the 12 V is auxiliary; the engine is started by the hybrid system with the traction battery. If the 12 V goes flat, the C-HR won't reach «READY».

- Typical capacity: ~45-50 Ah on the hybrids' auxiliary AGM; 60-70 Ah and 560-640 A on the 1.2 Turbo petrol.

- Price with fitting: conventional 85-140 € , EFB 130-230 € , AGM 180-280 € , premium AGM 280-380 € .

- Real service life in Málaga: 4-6 years for EFB, 5-7 years for AGM; the heat punishes the hybrid auxiliary battery.

- Where: Málaga Baterías, C/ La Orotava, 100, 29006 Málaga. Fitted in about 15 minutes, no appointment. Official Varta Distributor since 1999.

Which battery does the Toyota C-HR take?
The first thing to understand about the C-HR is that almost the whole range is hybrid , and in a hybrid the 12 V battery does not do its usual job. Here it does not start the combustion engine : that is done by the hybrid system with the high-voltage traction battery. The 12 V one is an auxiliary AGM battery that powers the electronics, gives the «READY» mode and keeps the lights, locking and screen alive. The only exception is the 1.2 Turbo petrol (C-HR I, depending on market), which is not a hybrid: that one does have conventional Start-Stop and an EFB.
Version System Recommended type Indicative capacity / cranking
C-HR I 1.8 Hybrid (2016-2023) Hybrid HEV Auxiliary AGM ~45-50 Ah / — (does not crank the engine)
C-HR I 2.0 Hybrid (2020-2023) Hybrid HEV Auxiliary AGM ~45-50 Ah / —
C-HR I 1.2 Turbo petrol (2016-2019, depending on market) Start-Stop (not hybrid) EFB ~60-70 Ah / 560-640 A
C-HR II 1.8 / 2.0 Hybrid (2023-) Hybrid HEV Auxiliary AGM ~45-50 Ah / —
C-HR II 2.0 Plug-in Hybrid (2023-) Plug-in hybrid Auxiliary AGM ~45-50 Ah / —

These are indicative ranges : Toyota adjusts the 12 V size by year, trim and market, and we're not going to invent a part number for you over the internet. What is firm: if your C-HR is a hybrid —which it most likely is—, it needs an auxiliary AGM , never a conventional one; only the 1.2 Turbo petrol steps outside that rule with an EFB. On the hybrids we don't talk about cranking amps (CCA) because that battery doesn't turn the engine: that's why you see «—» in the cranking column. Confirm it with the number plate.
Golden rule
On a hybrid Toyota C-HR the 12 V battery is auxiliary and AGM: it does not start the engine. Never replace it with a conventional one.
The traction battery is a matter for the official Toyota service; we change the 12 V one.

How to find out which one is yours
Forget hunting for the part number on forums. Give us the number plate —from the quote form on this page, on WhatsApp or by calling 952 31 01 18 — and we'll confirm whether your C-HR takes the hybrid's auxiliary AGM or the 1.2 Turbo's EFB, the size and the final fitted price.
Want an idea first? Use the “which battery do I need?” test . And if what you want to know is whether yours will survive another summer, the free battery check in Málaga with Midtronics tells you in 5 minutes, no obligation: it measures the real charge and health of the 12 V, not just a voltage reading.
Three details help narrow it down: generation (C-HR I or C-HR II), powertrain (1.8 or 2.0 Hybrid, 2.0 Plug-in Hybrid or the 1.2 Turbo petrol) and year .

Signs it is time to replace it
On a C-HR the warning is not “lazy cranking”, because the 12 V doesn't turn the engine. The pattern is different and very recognisable:

- It won't reach «READY», or takes a while to. You press the start button and the car doesn't get into drive mode, or struggles to. It's the clearest symptom of a flat 12 V.

- It dies after several days parked. The telematics and the smart key keep drawing power at rest; if the 12 V is already old, the car won't wake up after a few days unused. A classic after the holidays.

- Several warning lights on at once when it wakes up (hybrid, ABS, steering, traction): it's not that five things have broken, it's that the 12 V isn't giving a stable voltage. …
