A Seat uses a 12 V battery and, depending on the model and engine, it is a conventional 55-70 Ah unit on entry-level or older Seats without Stop-Start, an EFB of 60-70 Ah on most TSI petrol and TDI diesel models with Stop-Start, and AGM on the best-equipped versions and the León e-Hybrid. Like the whole VAG group, modern Seats have a sensor on the negative terminal, so the new battery has to be registered in the car's ECU . At Málaga Baterías · C/ La Orotava, 100, 29006 Málaga · Official Varta Distributor since 1999 we test it for free and fit it without an appointment, in about 15 minutes . Guide prices with installation included: 85-140 € conventional, 130-230 € EFB and 180-280 € AGM.

Seat is one of the most common makes on Málaga's roads: built in Spain, with the Ibiza and the Arona among the best-selling cars in the province. Seats of every era come through our workshop, from a twenty-year-old Ibiza 6J to a plug-in León e-Hybrid. And that difference matters: on the modern ones, fitting the battery and closing the bonnet is not enough, it has to be registered in the car's ECU . We do it on the spot, included in the price, without an appointment and in the shop (we do not offer home fitting), at C/ La Orotava, 100, 29006 Málaga .

What battery does a Seat take?

Seat shares platforms and mechanicals with the rest of the VAG group (Volkswagen, Škoda, Cupra), so the rule is the same across the range: models with Stop-Start use EFB or AGM —never conventional— and a battery sensor on the negative terminal that means the new battery must be registered in the ECU. If it is not registered, the car charges it as if it were the old one and it lasts half as long. These are the models we change most (values are a guide , all 12 V ):

Model Typical technology Stop-Start Note
Seat Ibiza Conventional or EFB Depends on version Conventional on 6J/6L and 1.0 MPI; EFB with registration on 1.0 TSI and 1.6 TDI
Seat Arona EFB (AGM if well equipped) Yes Small TSI SUV; ECU registration required
Seat León EFB or AGM Yes AGM on well-equipped and e-Hybrid (12 V auxiliary)
Seat Ateca EFB or AGM Yes SUV; keep the original technology and register

Guide values: they change with the year, the trim and the equipment. "—" = a figure we confirm from your number plate.

A quick trick to know which one you need: look at the negative terminal . If it has a sensor with a connector coming out of it, your Seat manages charging actively and needs EFB or AGM plus registration of the new battery. And if your car came from the factory with AGM, you must keep AGM: you can go up from EFB to AGM, but never down from AGM to EFB .

Signs it's time to change it

- Slow cold starts, especially first thing in the morning.

- Stop-Start doesn't engage , or it engages and the engine restarts by itself after a few seconds: the classic first warning on modern Seats.

- A permanent message on the dash saying the Stop-Start conditions are not met.

- Intermittent faults on the screen, the audio system or the electronics.

- Battery changed recently but not registered in the ECU : the car still treats it as the old one, charges it badly and it lasts half as long.

- On a León e-Hybrid or other hybrid, the car won't switch on even though the traction battery is charged: it is usually the 12 V auxiliary.

- Over 4 years old. In Málaga a conventional battery lasts on average 4-6 years and an EFB or AGM 5-7 .
