The Renault Clio battery is 12 V and is around 55-70 Ah and 480-720 A depending on generation and engine : a conventional 55-60 Ah battery on naturally aspirated versions without Start-Stop (1.2 16V and 1.0 SCe), an EFB of 60-70 Ah on TCe and Blue dCi with Start-Stop, and a 12 V auxiliary battery of 45-60 Ah (EFB or AGM) on the E-Tech hybrid, which is the one that powers the car up. At Málaga Baterías (C/ La Orotava, 100, 29006 Málaga), Official Varta Distributor since 1999 , we check it free of charge and replace it without an appointment, in about 15 minutes . Guideline prices with fitting included: 85-140 € conventional, 130-230 € EFB and 180-280 € AGM.

The Renault Clio has spent half its life fighting for the top of Spain's sales charts, and in 2025 it was once again the country's second best-selling car. In Málaga you'll find all of them: high-mileage Clio IVs, brand-new Clio Vs and a growing number of E-Tech hybrids. Each one needs a different battery and, with the hybrid, there's a twist: the one that leaves you stranded isn't the big one, it's the 12 V. We'll clear it up in two minutes at C/ La Orotava, 100, 29006 Málaga , with a free test and a battery change without an appointment .

Which battery does the Renault Clio take?

It depends on the generation, the engine and whether your car has Start-Stop. Indicative figures, all 12 V :

Version Approx. Ah Cranking (A) Technology Start-Stop
1.2 16V / 1.0 SCe (naturally aspirated petrol, no Start-Stop) 55-60 Ah 480-560 A Conventional No
1.0 TCe / 1.3 TCe (turbo petrol with Start-Stop) 60-70 Ah 600-680 A EFB Yes
1.5 dCi / Blue dCi (diesel) 70 Ah 640-720 A Conventional or EFB Depends on version
E-Tech Full Hybrid 45-60 Ah — EFB or AGM —

Guideline figures: they vary with year, trim and equipment. “—” = we confirm it from your number plate.

About the E-Tech: the hybrid has two batteries and they are not treated the same. The high-voltage traction battery is a job for the official service network; it isn't replaced in a normal battery change and we don't touch it. The one that does fail — and the one we do replace — is the 12 V auxiliary : it powers all the electronics and switches the car on. If it's flat, the car won't start even with a fully charged traction battery.

About the diesels: dCi engines demand considerably more cranking current than the petrols. Skimping on CCA to save twenty euros comes back to bite on the first cold morning.

How to find out which one is yours

The Clio IV and Clio V share a name but not a platform or a battery, and even cars from the same year differ in capacity depending on trim and equipment. The quickest, most reliable route is to give us the number plate on WhatsApp or at the shop: with it we know the Ah, CCA, technology, polarity and exact dimensions. If you'd rather look yourself, the label on the battery under the bonnet carries those figures. And if you're not sure the battery is even the culprit, start with a free battery check .

Signs it's time to replace it

- Slow, lazy cranking — very typical of a Clio IV that's over five years old.

- Start-Stop no longer engages on TCe and Blue dCi versions.

- On an E-Tech: the car won't go to READY , or an electrical system fault warning appears even though the traction battery has plenty of charge.

- The R-Link / Easy Link system reboots on its own or is slow to wake up.

- The battery warning light comes on while the engine is running: that usually points to the alternator, not the battery. Get the test done before buying anything.

- It's more than 4 years old. In Málaga a conventional battery lasts 4-6 years on average and an AGM 5-7 .

How much it costs in Málaga

Fixed price, fitting included :

Technology Renault Clio versions Price fitted
Conventional 1.2 16V, 1.0 SCe without Start-Stop 85-140 €
EFB TCe and Blue dCi with Start-Stop, and the E-Tech auxiliary 130-230 €
AGM Versions that require it, or if you want to upgrade 180-280 €

Guide prices, installation included. The final price may vary depending on how complex the installation is and on the battery specifications. Ask us for a no-obligation quote.

The E-Tech auxiliary battery is smaller, but that doesn't make it the cheapest: what you pay for there is the technology (EFB or AGM), not the amp-hours. …
