Which battery does the Nissan Qashqai take?
With the Qashqai, the first job is pinning down the generation, because a J10 (2007-2013) , a J11 (2013-2021) and a J12 (from 2021) are three electrically different cars. The J10 is simple and mostly has no Start-Stop. The J11 made it standard and that’s where EFB begins. And the J12 adds the 12 V mild hybrid and, above all, e-Power , which works in a way worth understanding before touching anything.
Version Start-Stop Recommended type Indicative capacity / cranking
Qashqai J10 (2007-2013) 1.6 / 2.0 petrol, mostly without Start-Stop No Conventional 60-70 Ah / 540-640 A
Qashqai J10 (2007-2013) 1.5 / 2.0 dCi Depends on version Conventional (EFB if it has Start-Stop) 70-74 Ah / 640-680 A
Qashqai J11 (2013-2021) 1.2 / 1.6 DIG-T Start-Stop Yes EFB (AGM as an upgrade) 60-70 Ah / 600-680 A
Qashqai J11 (2013-2021) 1.5 / 1.6 dCi Start-Stop Yes EFB or AGM 70-75 Ah / 680-760 A
Qashqai J12 (2021-) 1.3 DIG-T 12 V mild hybrid Yes EFB or AGM Around 70 Ah / 680-760 A
Qashqai J12 e-Power (2022-) — AGM or EFB (12 V service battery) 60-70 Ah / 600-680 A

As always, these are indicative ranges , not fixed part numbers: Nissan varied sizes by year, engine and market. Two warnings specific to the Qashqai. First: the dCi diesels need more cranking amps (CCA) than the equivalent petrols, because a diesel has to overcome more compression and also power the glow plugs; going below the homologated figure is the recipe for being stranded on the first cool morning. Second: if your Qashqai came with AGM, don’t drop to EFB —the other way round is fine, moving from EFB to AGM is an upgrade—. And never a conventional battery in a Qashqai with Start-Stop. Confirm it with the number plate.
Golden rule
If your Nissan Qashqai has Start-Stop, it needs EFB or AGM: never a conventional battery.
You can move up from EFB to AGM. Never go down from AGM to EFB.

How to find out which one is yours
The quick, safe way: give us the number plate from the quote form on this page, on WhatsApp or by calling 952 31 01 18 . That tells us the generation, the engine and whether your Qashqai has Start-Stop, and we give you the type, capacity and final fitted price.
If you want to get your bearings first, there’s the “which battery do I need?” test . And if your question is “will it last or not?”, the free battery check in Málaga with Midtronics equipment measures real charge and health in 5 minutes, free and with no obligation. On a diesel this matters more than it seems: a battery can read 12.6 V at rest and still not have enough CCA to turn a cold dCi.
Useful details to have handy: year , engine (DIG-T, dCi, mild hybrid or e-Power) and whether the engine switches itself off at traffic lights .

Signs it is time to replace it
The signs vary quite a bit depending on which Qashqai you have:

- dCi diesel (J10 and J11): long, laboured cold starts. The engine cranks slowly, takes a while to catch, and in the morning you notice it struggles more than in the afternoon. It’s the classic warning on a diesel Qashqai, and it shows up earlier in winter because the glow plugs draw current right before cranking.

- J11 and J12: Start-Stop stops working and sometimes a message appears on the dash. The car disables it by itself to protect a battery that no longer reaches the required state of charge.

- “Phantom” electronic faults: the 360° camera, ProPILOT or the screen reboot or throw intermittent errors. The Qashqai carries a lot of driver aids and they all complain when voltage drops.

- e-Power: the car won’t go into READY even though it has fuel and everything looks fine. …
