Home › Car batteries › Batteries by brand › Citroën › C3 Need a battery for your Citroën C3 in Málaga? The C3 is one of the most common cars on the city's streets and, precisely because of how it gets used —short trips, traffic jams, on-street parking—, it's one of the first to ask for a new battery. At Málaga Baterías (C/ La Orotava, 100, 29006 Málaga) we identify it from the number plate and change it on the spot, in about 15 minutes and with no appointment . Official Varta Distributor since 1999, free Midtronics test and recycling included. Call us on 952 31 01 18 .

Key facts

- Typical capacity: 50-70 Ah and 480-720 A of cranking current, depending on the version.

- Type: conventional if it has no Start-Stop; EFB or AGM if it does.

- Compact battery tray: the C3 shares its platform with the Peugeot 208 and 2008, so the case size and the base clamp matter as much as the Ah.

- Price with fitting: conventional 85-140 € , EFB 130-230 € , AGM 180-280 € .

- Real service life in Málaga: 4-6 years for conventional and EFB, 5-7 years for AGM.

- Where: Málaga Baterías, C/ La Orotava, 100, 29006 Málaga. Fitted in about 15 minutes, no appointment. Official Varta Distributor since 1999.

Which battery does the Citroën C3 take?
The C3 has gone through several generations with different needs: the C3 II (2009-2016) and much of the C3 III (2016-2024) had engine options without Start-Stop and small batteries, while the C3 III , on the PSA CMP platform —the same one it shares with the Peugeot 208 and 2008—, makes Start-Stop standard on the newest versions and calls for a more demanding battery. The new C3 and the electric ë-C3 (from 2024) add another layer: the ë-C3 carries a lithium (LFP) traction battery for the motor, but keeps a conventional lead-acid 12 V battery for the rest of the car, and that's the one that goes flat and causes the classic "won't start". Fitting a recent C3 with what worked on an older one is an expensive mistake.
Version Start-Stop Recommended type Indicative capacity / cranking
C3 II/III 1.2 VTi / PureTech (82) without Start-Stop No Conventional 50-60 Ah / 480-540 A
C3 with Start-Stop 1.2 PureTech 110/130 Yes EFB Around 60 Ah / 560-620 A
C3 diesel 1.5/1.6 BlueHDi with Start-Stop Yes EFB or AGM Around 70 Ah / 680-720 A
C3 II 1.4 HDi (older engine) Depends on trim Conventional or EFB 55-60 Ah / 500-560 A
ë-C3 (fully electric, from 2024) — 12 V auxiliary (AGM or conventional depending on year) 50-60 Ah / 480-560 A

These are indicative ranges : Citroën has fitted several sizes within the same engine depending on year, trim and market, and we're not going to invent a part number for you over the internet. What is firm: if your C3 has Start-Stop, it needs EFB or AGM , never a conventional one. You can move up from EFB to AGM; never drop from AGM to EFB. And watch the C3's engine bay: sharing a platform with the 208 and 2008 makes it just as compact, and the case size and the hold-down type matter as much as the Ah . Confirm it with the number plate.
Golden rule
If your Citroën C3 has Start-Stop, it needs EFB or AGM: never a conventional battery.
You can move up from EFB to AGM. Never go down from AGM to EFB.

How to find out which one is yours
Forget hunting for the part number on forums. Give us the number plate —from the quote form on this page, on WhatsApp or by calling 952 31 01 18 — and we'll confirm the type, the size and the final fitted price for your C3's battery.
Want an idea first? Use the "which battery do I need?" test . And if what you want to know is whether yours will survive another summer, the free battery check in Málaga with Midtronics tells you in 5 minutes, no obligation: it measures real charge and health, not just a voltage reading.
Three details help narrow it down: year , engine (VTi, PureTech, BlueHDi or ë-C3) and whether the engine switches itself off at traffic lights (that's Start-Stop, and it changes the battery type).

Signs it is time to replace it
The C3 has a very recognisable failure pattern, and it's almost always tied to city use:

- It won't start after a few days parked. A classic on C3s used only at weekends or left in the garage over the holidays. The electronics keep drawing power at rest and, if the battery is already old, it doesn't make it.

- Lazy starts in the morning, fine in the afternoon. A sign of a battery that's short on charge: in the morning it's cold and flat; after some driving, the alternator has put back just enough.

- Start-Stop no longer kicks in at traffic lights. The C3 disables it on its own when the battery isn't at the required state of charge. It's not a system quirk: it's a warning.

- The touchscreen reboots or loses the clock when you switch on the ignition.

- Locks and windows are slow , or the car takes a while to "wake up" when you unlock it. …
