The Audi Q3 battery is 12 V and is around 70-80 Ah and 680-800 A depending on the engine : the Q3 F3 (2018-) comes with factory AGM on most versions —2.0 TSI 40 and 45 TFSI, 2.0 TDI and highly equipped trims— and EFB on the 1.5 TSI 35 TFSI with Start-Stop. On the 45 TFSIe (plug-in hybrid) the 12 V is an auxiliary battery and does not crank the engine. Because of the sensor on the negative terminal, the new battery must be registered in the ECU . At Málaga Baterías (C/ La Orotava, 100, 29006 Málaga), Official Varta Distributor since 1999 , we test it free and replace it with no appointment, in about 15 minutes . Guide prices with fitting included: 85-140 € conventional, 130-230 € EFB and 180-280 € AGM.

The Audi Q3 is one of the premium SUVs you see most on the roads around Málaga, and also one of the most demanding on its battery: screens, climate control, driver aids and plenty of electronics that, with short city trips, leave the battery permanently on the edge. On top of that, almost every Q3 runs AGM and a battery sensor , so simply fitting the battery and closing the bonnet is not enough: it has to be registered in the ECU . We do it on the spot, with no appointment , at C/ La Orotava, 100, 29006 Málaga .

How to know which one your Q3 needs

Quick trick to know what you need: look at the negative terminal . If it has a sensor with a connector coming off it (the battery state sensor), your Q3 manages charging actively and needs EFB or AGM plus registration of the new battery in the ECU. And if your car left the factory with AGM, you must keep AGM: you can move up from EFB to AGM, but never down from AGM to EFB . Between generations, engines and trims there are too many combinations to guess: give us your plate or start with a free battery check and we'll tell you the exact Ah, CCA, technology, polarity and dimensions.

Signs the Q3 battery needs replacing

- Slow cranking when cold, especially on the 2.0 TDI first thing in the morning.

- Start-Stop stops kicking in , or it does and the engine restarts by itself after a few seconds: the classic first warning on modern Q3s.

- Battery warning light or an electrical-system message on the Virtual Cockpit.

- Battery replaced recently but not registered in the ECU : the car keeps treating it as the old one, charges it wrong and it lasts half as long.

- On the 45 TFSIe (plug-in hybrid), the car won't go «READY» or give ignition even with the high-voltage battery charged: it's usually the 12 V auxiliary.

- Heavy SUV electrical load (climate control, screens, driver aids) that leaves the battery on the edge if you only do short trips.

- More than 4-5 years old. In Málaga a conventional battery averages 4-6 years and an AGM 5-7 .
